Photo Biodynamic Therapy
Brighter, Calmer, Healthier Skin Without A Single Needle
If your skin looks tired, uneven or reactive and you would rather not go near an injectable, Photo Biodynamic Therapy gives you a gentle way in. It pairs medical grade LED light with active serums to encourage your skin cells back into repair mode, so your complexion looks clearer and more even from the inside out.
There are no needles, no downtime and nothing to hide afterwards. You lie back for around half an hour, then walk out and carry on with your day. It is one of the calmest treatments we offer, and one of the easiest to fit around real life.
Photo Biodynamic Therapy costs £150 per session, or £420 for a course of three. Your consultation is complimentary, so you can find out whether it suits your skin before you commit to anything.
Your Treatment, Led By Christine Roberts
Your Photo Biodynamic Therapy is carried out by Christine Roberts, an Independent Nurse Prescriber with more than ten years in medical aesthetics and a background in critical care nursing, ward management and dermatology. She is NMC registered and Save Face accredited, and skin quality is where her interest genuinely sits.
That matters more than it might sound. LED light is only half of this treatment. The other half is choosing the right active serum and the right wavelengths for what is actually happening in your skin, and that is a clinical judgement, not a menu choice. You get a proper skin assessment from a clinician who can prescribe, not a preset programme applied to everyone.
You can also request to see Christine at every visit, so your plan stays consistent and someone is genuinely tracking how your skin responds.
What Is Photo Biodynamic Therapy?
Photo Biodynamic Therapy, usually shortened to PBT, is a non invasive light treatment that works at a cellular level. Specific wavelengths of LED light are delivered to your skin alongside targeted topical serums. The light gives your cells the energy to repair and regenerate, and it helps the active ingredients in the serum reach the layers where they can do their work.
Different wavelengths do different jobs. Red light supports collagen and elastin production, which is what softens fine lines and improves firmness. Blue light targets the bacteria involved in breakouts. Near infrared reaches deeper to calm inflammation and support healing. Christine selects the combination that suits your skin, which is why the same treatment can help someone dealing with stubborn breakouts and someone dealing with sun damage and redness.
Because nothing pierces the skin and no significant heat is generated, PBT is suitable for all skin types and skin tones. That is not true of every rejuvenation treatment, and it is one of the reasons we recommend it as often as we do. Christine will confirm it is right for you at your consultation.
What Photo Biodynamic Therapy Does For Your Skin
- Your skin tone looks more even, and dullness lifts. Light energy supports circulation and cell turnover, so your complexion looks brighter rather than flat.
- Fine lines soften as collagen rebuilds. Red light stimulates the fibroblasts responsible for collagen and elastin, so your skin gradually feels firmer.
- Redness and irritation settle. If your skin is reactive or rosacea prone, the calming effect of the light is often the first thing you notice.
- Breakouts calm and acne scarring softens. Blue light targets the bacteria behind spots, while the collagen response works on the marks they leave behind.
- Your skin heals faster after other treatments. PBT works well alongside microneedling or a peel, because it shortens the recovery window and improves the end result.
- It suits all skin types and tones. LED does not rely on heat or target pigment the way some light based treatments do, which makes it a sensible option for deeper skin tones.
- There is nothing to recover from. No swelling, no bruising, no peeling. You can wear make up and go straight back to work.

How Your Treatment Works
1. Your Complimentary Consultation
Christine assesses your skin properly, listens to what is bothering you and builds a plan around it. If Photo Biodynamic Therapy is not the right answer for your concern, she will tell you and point you somewhere better. There is no charge and no obligation. You can read more about Christine and her background here.
2. Preparing Your Skin
Your skin is cleansed and then prepped with an active serum chosen for your concern, whether that is hydration, brightening, calming or clearing congestion. This is the layer the light will drive deeper.
3. The Light Therapy
You relax under a specialist LED device for around 20 to 30 minutes while it delivers the wavelengths selected for your skin. It is painless. Most people describe it as warm and quietly relaxing, and a fair few fall asleep.
4. Protecting Your Results
A soothing serum and a broad spectrum SPF go on at the end to protect the work the light has just done. Then you leave. There is no redness to wait out and no reason to book the afternoon off.
When You Will See Results, And How Many Sessions You Need
Many people notice a difference after a single session, usually a brightness and a calmness that was not there that morning. The deeper changes, the collagen rebuilding and the tone evening out, build gradually as your skin responds.
For most concerns Christine will recommend a course, with sessions spaced 7 to 10 days apart. A course of three is £420, which works out cheaper than paying session by session. She will tell you honestly at consultation how many sessions your skin is likely to need, based on what you want to change.
Once you are happy with where your skin has got to, a maintenance session every 4 to 6 weeks keeps it there.
Looking After Your Skin Afterwards
- Stay out of direct sun for 48 hours.
- Leave exfoliants and retinoids alone for 2 to 3 days.
- Keep your skin well hydrated with gentle, non active products.
- Wear SPF 30 or higher every day, without exception.
- Skip saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga for 48 hours.
- Follow any personal instructions Christine gives you, because they are based on your skin rather than a generic list.
If you want to get more from your results, this is a good moment to look at what you are using at home. Our Obagi skincare programmes are built for exactly this, and Sally, our Obagi Ambassador, can talk you through where to start.
Treatments That Work Well Alongside PBT
Photo Biodynamic Therapy sits comfortably next to almost everything else we do, and it is often the finishing touch rather than the whole plan.
If you are dealing with texture and scarring, pairing it with microneedling gives you the collagen response of both. If your skin is dehydrated and losing bounce, Profhilo rebuilds hydration from within while PBT works on tone and clarity. For skin that needs repair rather than volume, polynucleotides and exosome therapy work at a cellular level in a similar way, and both sit within our wider regenerative medicine range.
If sun damage is what brought you here, it is worth reading our sun damaged skin treatment page, and our Skin Health range brings the whole picture together. Plenty of patients combine PBT with Anti Wrinkle treatment, because one softens the movement lines while the other improves the quality of the skin itself.
What Your Results Will Actually Look Like
We would rather be honest with you than show you a dramatic photograph. Photo Biodynamic Therapy is a gradual treatment, not a transformation. What most people notice first is that their skin looks calmer and brighter, usually within a day or two of the first session. Redness settles. The dullness lifts.
The changes that take longer, the fine lines softening and the tone evening out, build across a course as your collagen responds. That is why Christine will usually recommend a course rather than selling you a single session and hoping.
At your consultation she will show you comparable cases and tell you honestly what your skin is likely to do. If she thinks another treatment would get you further, she will say so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Photo Biodynamic Therapy hurt?
No. There are no needles and nothing that breaks the skin. The light is warm and gentle, and most people find the half hour genuinely relaxing.
Is there any downtime?
None. Your skin may look slightly flushed for a short while, but you can apply make up and go straight back to whatever you were doing.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people see a change after one, but a course gives you the lasting result. We usually recommend a course of three, spaced 7 to 10 days apart, then a maintenance session every 4 to 6 weeks. Christine will be honest with you about what your skin actually needs.
Is it suitable for darker skin tones?
Yes. LED does not rely on heat and does not target pigment the way some light based treatments do, so it is suitable for all skin types and tones. Your consultation will confirm it is right for you.
Can I have it if I have rosacea or sensitive skin?
This is one of the treatments we reach for most often with reactive skin, because the light has a calming rather than an aggressive effect. Christine will assess your skin and confirm suitability before you go ahead.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Yes, and it often works better that way. It is a strong partner for microneedling, peels and skin boosters, because it supports healing and improves the end result.
How much does Photo Biodynamic Therapy cost?
A single session is £150 and a course of three is £420. Your consultation is free, and a £40 refundable deposit secures your appointment.
Will it help with acne?
It can. Blue light targets the bacteria involved in breakouts, while the collagen response helps with the marks left behind. It works best as part of a plan that includes the right skincare at home.
